Theme Post – Fairies
Jul 31st, 2009 by elle
Today I felt like another theme post, so here’s one close to my heart… Faeries!
I’ve been a faery kind of person for quite a while now, I just love the world of Faerie. I was surprised that there weren’t all that many faerie patterns on Ravelry, so I also included some gnome and pixie inspired stuff.
First off, hats. Hats are perhaps the easiest way to get your inner faerie out in day to day life without looking totally weird when your going about your normal daily activities. I’ll start with little heads, too. A baby gnome hat… This is just ridiculously cute. What I love most about baby patterns on Ravelry are all the cute little babies modelling their mama’s/papa’s/grandmother’s/grandfather’s/aunt’s/uncle’s knitted creations. Here is a Flower Fairy hat for babies, a very cute pattern I have to say. Now for some big-head patterns. A Pixie Beret for adults, such a pretty design, and a gnome hat for adults, this one can be felted, too, which is great. It would be a definite ‘around the house’ sort of thing, but I’d love a felted one of these for myself.
Now for some faerie inspired clothing! Here is a cardigan by the name of Faery Ring that I have always thought was fantastic! After I knit up my current project, I’ll be making one of these. Now, this is a little dress called Flora, and is for little girls. It’s very pretty, and I’ve even thought of adding in extra ‘petals’ to make it for adults.
This pattern here is for Woodland Fairy Wings, and I think it’s just a lovely idea. This is another one I’d love to see knitted larger for adults… specifically, for this adult.
Lastly here are some odds and ends. A pillow by the name of Fairy Squares, which has some nice faerie silhouettes worked on it, and a very cute knitted faerie doll called Sally the Eco Fairy.
I hope some of these patterns are picked up by my readers and used, I think knitting and faeries are two topics that should be brought together more!
