Desiging my own pattern
Oct 9th, 2009 by elle
I’ve never done this before, but now I am actually trying to design my own knitting pattern.
So here’s what’s going on. It’s fun to play with your cats, to make them run around after a ball, or occasionally throw soft things at them. Like socks, I like to throw socks so they land on my kitties tummies.
It’s really cute!
Because of this, my fiance and I got to thinking what other cute things we could throw at the cats. They have to be soft and small, so we thought about tiny knitted missiles, stuffed with soft fibre fill, which would be cute, but then my fiancĂ© came up with the idea of a soft knitted morning star cat toy! For those unfamiliar, a morning star is a spiked ball on a chain that’s attached to a strong haft of some sort, either wood or metal.
I am making a very small, soft toy version. So I’ve knitted up a handle, and felted it, which I’m then going to stuff and sew up, and then I’m going to knit an icord for the chain, and then make a small ball, and felt it, then stuff it, for the other end. Not sure how I’m going to spikes as yet, so maybe mine won’t be spiked!
It’s inspired me to make a heap of soft knitted weapons, all little and cute. Then in the future I’ll have to make a heap of really girly patterns, in contrast.
The pattern seems straight forward enough, but I do need some assistance with making a ball. I found a good pattern, which will be today’s pattern, called Oh Balls!, which should help out a fair bit, a heck of a lot, really.
Okay so I went away from this for a while to think, and I’ve started over. I’m re-knitting it in all one piece! Wish me luck!
